EmFilm is a latex-free, sterile, self-adhesive, showerproof, flexible semi-permeable polyurethane film dressing designed to protect wounds while supporting optimal healing.

Why Choose EmFilm?

  • Hypoallergenic design – acrylic adhesive and latex free
  • Infection prevention – sterile, barrier to bacteria and external contaminants
  • Moisture balance – maintains hydration whilst vaporising excess moisture out
  • Visibility – transparent to facilitate skin and wound assessment
  • Showerproof – patient personal hygiene needs can be met
  • Conformable – low profile and flexible aids conformability to body contours
  • Comfort – flexible film moves with the skin to prevent dermal pull during wear
  • 7-day wear (maximum) – rounded edges prevent dressing lift, early removal, avoiding wound bed disruption and increased number of nursing visits

Clinically how can EmFilm be used?

Primary Dressing – Intact skin to prevent friction and grade 1 pressure ulcers

Secondary Dressing – Over other dressing types such as hydrogels/alginates

I.V Sites – (please see our extensive range of EmFilm I.V dressings)

Indications for use

  • Pressure Ulcer Prevention

To protect intact skin from friction and moisture

  • Superficial very low exuding wounds

Grade 1 pressure ulcers, minor cuts and abrasions

  • Closed surgical wounds

  • Donor Sites

  • Radiation Dermatitis

  • Blister Protection

Application

  • Select dressing size 1-2 inches larger than wound borders

  • Clean and thoroughly pat dry the area to be dressed

  • Remove one half backing liner from the dressing to expose adhesive contact side

  • Place adhesive facing toward the wound

  • Remove corresponding top release liner smoothing the dressing gently into place

  • Repeat above for the second half of the dressing

  • Gently press the dressing and edges to secure

Removal

Remove the dressing using the “Stretch and Release” technique. Gently lift one corner and stretch the film horizontally to break the adhesive bond, which allows the dressing to gently peel away from the skin

Top Tips

  • Ensure the dressing is applied smoothly with no air bubbles or channels as these can harbour bacteria

  • DO NOT apply tapes or other dressings over the film dressing

  • Consider using a skin barrier protectant for fragile skin

  • Consider using a skin prep for oily skin

  • Ointments and creams will affect the adherence so use lightly and allow to absorb

  • If edges do lift these can be trimmed rather than changing the dressing

  • If the dressing has a large moisture accumulation or becomes cloudy the dressing should be changed
