EmFilm IV is a latex free, sterile, self-adhesive, showerproof, flexible semi-permeable polyurethane film IV dressing.

Indications for use

  • IV Cannulation Sites

Application

  • Prepare the area using ANTT and dry thoroughly

  • Remove centre cut out which also holds the 2 sterile fixation tape strips

     

  • Peel the backing paper away from the framed film dressing

  • Apply the dressing directly over the catheter ensuring the film covers the insertion site

  • Position the soft cloth tape section over the device wings and the port within the V notch

  • Overlap each side of the soft cloth tape underneath the port hub

  • Remove the frame and gently press edges to ensure adhesion

  • Complete and apply the documentation label to the dressing, ensuring it does not obstruct visibility of the insertion site

Removal

Remove the dressing using the “Stretch and Release” technique. Gently lift one corner and stretch the film horizontally to break the adhesive bond which allows the dressing to gently peel away from the skin

Application

  • Ensure the dressing is applied smoothly with no air bubbles or channels as these can harbour bacteria

  • DO NOT apply tapes or other dressings over the film dressing

  • Consider using a skin barrier protectant for fragile skin

  • Consider using additional skin prep for oily skin

  • If edges do lift these can be trimmed rather than changing the dressing

  • If the dressing has a large moisture accumulation or becomes cloudy the dressing should be changed
