EmFilm Plus is a latex free, sterile, self-adhesive, showerproof, flexible semi-permeable polyurethane film dressing with an integrated central absorbent pad.

Clinically how can EmFilm Plus be used?

Primary dressing – post-surgical and minor procedure wounds, grades 1 and 2 pressure ulcers, minor cuts and abrasions, post device removal

Secondary dressing – over other dressing types such as antimicrobial/alginates/gelling fibre

IV sites – (please see our extensive range of EmFilm IV dressings)

Indications for use

  • Post surgical wounds

  • Acute wounds

    minor procedures, minor cuts and abrasions

  • Chronic wounds with lower exudate levels

    including leg ulcers, pressure ulcers grade 1 and 2,  diabetic foot ulcers

  • Superficial partial thickness burns

  • Post device removal, drain sites and catheter sites

  • Donor sites

  • Blister protection

Application

  • Select dressing size 1-2 inches larger than wound borders

  • Clean and thoroughly pat dry the area to be dressed

  • Remove one half backing liner from the dressing to expose absorbent pad and adhesive contact side

  • Place absorbent pad facing toward the wound

  • Remove the corresponding top release liner, smoothing the dressing gently into place

  • Repeat the above for the second half of the dressing

  • Gently press the dressing film border and edges to secure

Removal

Remove the dressing using the “Stretch and Release” technique. Gently lift one corner and stretch the film horizontally to break the adhesive bond which allows the dressing to gently peel away from the skin

Top Tips

  • Ensure the dressing border is applied smoothly with no air bubbles or channels as these can harbour bacteria

  • DO NOT apply tapes or other dressings over the film backing of the dressing

  • Consider using a skin barrier protectant for fragile skin

  • Consider using a skin prep for oily skin

  • Ointments and creams will affect the adherence so use lightly and allow to absorb

  • If edges do lift these can be trimmed rather than changing the dressing

  • Monitor the dressing pad area for signs of bleeding post operatively – the film backing can be marked with a biro to aid assessment

  • If the dressing has a large moisture accumulation and the absorbent pad area is fully utilised the dressing should be changed
